Adrian’s Project 2012 Presents: the Berserker Residents!

  • Dear Friends,

After several months of collaborating, promoting, and organizing, the early efforts and goals of the Adrian Cervantes Mejia Fund have been realized. Since announcing the fund last year, we’ve been busy with lots of behind the scenes activity and have carefully selected the first recipient of Adrian’s Project.

We created Adrian’s Project, an annual grant giving performing arts competition, as a way to help promote emerging performing artists by exposing them to new audiences, and so it is with great pleasure that we at the ACMFund are ready to announce this year’s, the FIRST, recipient of Adrian’s Project—the Berserker Residents with their original show The Jersey Devil.

Here’s a bit about this year’s winners in their own words:

With a commitment to alternative live comedy, The Berserker Residents is a Philadelphia-based company that generates and produces original theatrical work.  Often site-specific and tending to draw on audience interaction, the Residents’ work has been showcased throughout Philadelphia and New York City – taking audiences to such locations as university science lecture halls, fallout shelters, and back alleys, and introducing them to a variety of characters, including touchy robots and meticulous cephalopods – you know, whomever’s around.

The Jersey Devil is an original, fast-paced, 60-minute telling of the myth of the New Jersey Devil. A band of traveling sideshow freaks has caught the devil and will unveil it to the audience after presenting its story. Done in a burlesque cabaret meets three-ring circus meets Laugh-In format, this three-man tour-de-force is told in the style of melodramatic farce mixed with the bloody Grand Guignol.

The Berserker Residents consist of four mighty warriors – long-term collaborators Justin Jain, David Johnson, Timothy Sawicki, and Bradley K. Wrenn.

We can’t wait to see these talented performers on the West Coast! The Berserker’s three-city tour begins this summer in Arcata, CA, followed by shows in San Francisco and Riverside, CA. Stay tuned for official dates and times.

    Sincerely,

    Eleni & Adolfo
